Process Flow Chart

Illustrating the flow of information or activities.
Whether trying to understand the flow of information in a GHG Report verification or the relationship of activities and processes in an EMS audit, an overall process flow chart can help the audit team gain a quick understanding of how your reporting or management system is structured.
Data Monitoring and Reporting
Beginning with the data capturing stage (e.g. metering devices, scales, ticket systems), identify and link the stages that the data goes through all the way to the final GHG Report. Make specific note of automated versus manual data manipulation events, and identify any conversions that take place. Also, note any reconciliation, calibration or back-check stages that occur in the overall reporting process.
Processes and Activities
Providing an overall process flow chart, identifying and linking the various activities that occur within a facility, will help to quickly familiarize the audit team with your operations. Be sure to identify the location of data capturing points (automated or manual) along the process path, ideally with the correct serial numbers for each metering device from which data is gathered for reporting purposes. An overall process flow chart can assist greatly during a pre-site tour discussion and as a point of reference during the site tour itself.
